Richmondshire leading by example on Government carbon-saving scheme

A new insulation scheme in Richmondshire has been highly commended after cutting over 1900 tonnes or carbon per year – the highest savings in the country so far.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme managed by Richmondshire District Council and Yorkshire Energy Partnership, is currently providing free external wall insulation to over 1000 properties across Colburn, Scorton, Hipswell and Richmond.

As well as improving energy efficiency and reducing fuel bills for local residents it is also improving the external appearance of houses.

Coun Jane Parlour, spokesperson for Planning including Climate Change and Sustainable Development, said:

“Ours is the largest active ECO scheme in the country and we’ve worked hard to save carbon and reduce fuel bills.”

“According to the Energy Saving Trust, residents will be approximately £490 better off per year which is a huge saving in a time of rising domestic energy bills.

“We have been working hard to improve the Districts sustainability and this shows that it’s starting to pay off.”
