A 28-year-old Leeds entrepreneur has launched his own online business selling bespoke furniture pieces after spending seven years working as a product development manager in Vietnam.
With experience designing pieces for the likes of Homebase, Next and Laura Ashley, Daniel Fairburn, from Armley, recognised his flair and love for designing furniture and took the decision to start his own business.
In the planning since summer 2012, Daniel launched Out & Out Original in April 2013 with support from Preston-based web specialists Bespoke Internet.
The site received 25,000 visitors within the first three months and features Daniel’s own designs, as well as some from a select handful of designers.
Speaking of his new business venture Daniel said:
“I am so pleased to have finally launched my business and am overwhelmed by how popular it has been.
“I received my first order within two weeks and one of our designer products sold out within three days.
“It’s been quite stressful, but I’m confident that I’ll survive my first year which will be a great achievement.”
Daniel, who graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a first class honors in Business and Marketing in 2005/2006, found himself relocating to Vietnam after being unemployed for two months.
“Even with an impressive degree under my belt, I just couldn’t get a job, so when I saw the opportunity to move to Vietnam, I jumped at the chance. I was only 21 at the time, so it was quite daunting, but I had nothing to lose.
“Seven years later I was very homesick and noticed that the UK was gradually edging out of recession, so I seized the chance to come back home.
“Because people are now more conscious about their spending, I wanted to develop a website that sold unique products and offered great functionality, working across all platforms – PC, Mac, tablet and smartphone.
“Now I have that, which is great for those savvy shoppers who like to make more considered purchases.
“I am looking forward to seeing how things progress and have plans to develop the website further to improve its offering.”
Steve Brennan, managing director at Bespoke Internet, said:
“Daniel is a great visionary and is fantastic to work with. His brief was very specific and required us to implement some very specialised technical expertise, so we are extremely delighted to have helped him to establish his business and will be working closely with him over forthcoming months to support the growth of the firm.”
