A Sheffield businessman has come up with what he believes will be a real winner for businesses expecting to be entertaining Tour de France visitors when the Grand Départ comes to Yorkshire in 2014.

For Mark Elliott, Chief Executive of Sheffield-based corporate gift company House of Logos, has produced a “Friend of Yorkshire” badge, which he hopes will become the iconic gift to be presented to thousands of visitors to the county when Le Tour comes to Yorkshire in July 2014.

The Tour caravan is expected to be made up of 180 vehicles – stretching 12km in length – and will distribute 15million items to the roadside fans.

In addition, the thousands of businesses along the route and countless hotels and guest houses across the region which will play host to tens of thousands of visitors, will all be keen to provide Yorkshire souvenirs to remind people from across Europe of their visit to God‘s own county.

The souvenir “Friend of Yorkshire” badge will be launched at the ‘Business in the Spotlight’ event on 11 September, where Mark will be one of the 15 major exhibitors.

The event is hosted by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) which is free to attend and is open to anyone from the business community.

Neville Martin, Development Manager for the FSB, said:

“We would like to applaud FSB member Mark Elliott for having the foresight to spot the potential of Le Grand Départ and to get his operation into gear in time to exploit the opportunity.

“This is a one-off chance FOR Yorkshire to ‘sell’ itself to a vast European audience and we hope that many more enterprising small businesses will climb aboard to make the event a resounding success.

“Mark Elliott has displayed precisely the unrelenting spirit we endeavour to promote through our ‘Business in the Spotlight’ events.

“We are living through hard times and many businesses have gone to the wall, whilst others have lost heart and given up.

“Mark, on the other hand, has spotted an opportunity and is pursuing it relentlessly to make an impact on the market.

“We take our hats off to him and we hope many local businesses will come along and meet Mark and take a leaf out of his book.”

“Business in the Spotlight” takes place at 4pm on 11 September at Costco Wholesale, Parkway Drive, Sheffield, S9 4SW.

Mark Elliott, CEO of House of Logos, said:

“The “Friend of Yorkshire” badge is an ideal item for al Yorkshire businesses to give-away to non Yorkshire folk and help cement business relationships and show what a great place Yorkshire is to work, rest and play!”
