A leadership development day in Barnsley will be led by a man who has spent his career advising governments, global companies, human rights organisations and the United Nations.
Management and leadership consultant Ian Thompson will be delivering the one day course at Barnsley Digital Media Centre on Tuesday, September 17.
Ian, who is a consultant to the chair of leadership at the UN, is holding the Leadership for Management Success course. The hands-on course examines approaches to leadership, ethics and communication techniques and is aimed at managers at any level.
“We will explore the essential elements of leadership using a hands-on practical approach. By the end of the day, delegates will have an understanding of what they need to do in order to inject that essential leadership element into their management roles.
“The day will be highly interactive and involve group exercises, discussion, reflection, and other inputs such as video clips, case discussions, observations and feedback all in a motivating, enjoyable environment.”
The course will look at a range of subjects, including why leadership is important, making the transition from doing to leading, giving effective feedback and motivating teams.
Ian has trained internationally for global organisations in the Far East, Middle East, India, Africa and Europe.
He also has over 30 years of practical experience in senior leadership roles in industry having held board positions in a number of companies including global organisations.
He has worked with leading business schools, major corporate organisations such as Microsoft, Cognizance, Samsung, JCB and human rights organisations.
Until recently Ian’s business, Procentus, operated entirely overseas.

“I’ve spent a long time travelling and want to increase my work in the UK and particularly in Yorkshire.
“Travelling in the Far East, Middle East, India, Africa and Europe has been fascinating and I’ve tremendously enjoyed working in diverse cultural settings.
“But I really feel it’s time to spend a bit more time in the UK with my family and share some of my skills with local businesses.”
