Harrogate’s Elite Scaffolding has created a “bridge of ties” outside one of York’s most famous schools.
Elite Scaffolding, which is based at Pannal Business Park, was called in by St Peter’s School, to erect scaffold around two sections of its footbridge which spans the A19 Bootham Road, ahead of essential work being carried out.
The footbridge connects the main school with its Linton, Dronfield and Manor boarding houses situated at the other side of Bootham Road.
St Peter’s was founded in 627 AD and its famous alumni include Guy Fawkes, Look North presenter Harry Gratian and cricketer Jonny Bairstow.
Elite Scaffolding director Spencer Cassidy said:
“Whilst this isn’t one of the biggest jobs in terms of size and scale, it is one of the most technically demanding we have worked on.
“Either side of the A19 we have positioned the scaffolding tubes, ties and fixing in such a way that, if for some reason the abutments were removed, our scaffolding would be able to hold up the structure.
“Many people think scaffolding is a fairly simple job, but it is anything but. Each job requires careful planning and there are an awful lot of safety precautions to be taken into consideration.
“In this case, we were working beside one of the York’s busiest roads and had to contend with traffic on one side and pedestrians on the other.”
Mr Cassidy added:
“Whilst we are based in Harrogate, our expertise is now being called on by homeowners, businesses and main contractors all over the region.”
