A new era dawned for Richmondshire District Council as the authority opened its new offices.

Council Leader John Blackie welcomed the staff to Mercury House – the £2million building developed in Station Road, Richmond.

The move means the council is based in one building for the first time in its history – the previous buildings in Frenchgate, Swale House and Dundas Street have closed.

Coun Blackie said:

“At last Red Letter Day arrived, and after 35 years of waiting, Richmondshire District Council opened its new offices at Mercury House.

“What a wonderful feeling – everybody was smiling and we had very chipper, staff, customers…..even councillors.  So now let us get on with the business – here we go!”
