Leading leisure operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV) has been awarded a prestigious environmental accolade after reducing the company’s carbon emissions by 4.8 per cent.
SIV, which operates 17 facilities including Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, the Motorpoint Arena and Sheffield City Hall, has achieved the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of its achievements in taking action on climate change.
The Carbon Trust Standard is a voluntary mark of excellence that enables organisations to demonstrate success in reducing their carbon footprint.
The Carbon Trust is widely regarded as the world’s leading certifier of organisational carbon footprint reduction.
Some of the projects that have enabled SIV to secure the Standard include LED lighting in venues, variable speed drives for electric motors, improved building management, energy awareness and staff participation.
Sean Midgley, energy and environmental manager for SIV, said:
“It is great recognition for our achievements in carbon reduction and demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon emissions year on year.
“It shows that we are taking action as a company by reducing the carbon emissions that we are directly responsible for across our portfolio of 17 venues.
“The Carbon Trust Standard requires us to keep reducing our carbon emissions and to recertify every two years, which means we have to continue working hard to reduce our impact on the environment.”
