Yorkshire Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed a Sheffield manufacturing leader as its regional chairman.
Peter Holmes, executive chairman of Anchor Magnets Ltd in the city is to take up the mantle.
A chartered director he has been the chair of South Yorkshire IoD since late last year and came to that role committed to encouraging more of the area’s directors to aspire to professional development as well as membership of the UK’s leading business lobbying group.
He intends to pursue those policies region wide emphasizing to members and all business leaders the benefits that on-going professional development can add to organisations and individuals.
Peter said of his appointment:
“There is a great deal of enthusiasm amongst members throughout our region to see the IoD continue to grow.
“The belief that better directors run better businesses is a key part of our mission with the ultimate achievement being that of chartered director.
“The UK relies on SMEs and our membership reflects that.
“With four active regional branches and an entrepreneurial membership Yorkshire is well placed to look after our desire for learning and to provide well balanced support to IoD lobbying and we aim to grow membership and engagement through the provision of high quality, topical events throughout the region.”
At the same time as Peter assumes the role of chair for Yorkshire IoD, Suzy Brain England, will step down as regional director following an increased demand for her time from her roles as a board chair and mentor.
Since she took over first as chair in January 2013 then as RD in August she has successfully implemented a radical programme of improvements in professional development and governance at the regional headquarters including recruiting chairs for the branches in South and North Yorkshire, a regional chair and strengthening the committee structure with the addition of chartered directors, young directors, vice chairs and other roles in the four-branch membership structure.
Yorkshire IoD has appointed Bernadette Cronin as interim regional director.
Bernadette who lives in North Yorkshire is a self employed consultant with a focus on training and skills development, she is a previous skills director at Avanta and has held a number of non executive directorships.
