A leading UK safety company with its roots firmly in Hull has welcomed today’s announcement that manufacturing company Siemens is to invest £160m in wind turbine production and installation facilities in the UK, securing the development of Green Port Hull and creating 1,000 new jobs.
Thomas Martin and Neil Jowsey, joint managing directors of Arco, said:
“Today’s announcement by Siemens is absolutely fantasic news for the city and region.
“Our particular part of the North East Coast is at the forefront of engineering design and technology in the renewable energy sector, particularly in offshore wind turbine manufacture and installation.
“The announcement confirms Hull’s central role in this growing industry.
“It will bring much needed skills training and employment to the Humber region which is good for our local communities and for businesses in the supply chain.
“Arco is currently working with a number of major energy companies, locally and nationally, providing safety training services, consultancy, protective clothing and other safety products.
“We have focussed on specialist areas of risk that are important in these industries including working at height and in confined spaces.
“We offer a range of safety training courses for those working on the construction and maintenance of onshore and offshore wind turbines as well as those in the bio-fuel power generating sector.”
