Jersey retail group joins York-based Costcutter

Jersey retail group J Mart Limited has announced that it has joined leading convenience retail business Costcutter Supermarkets Group in a move that will see its 18 stores adopt the Costcutter brand, bringing a much enhanced product range to its customers.

Its 18 stores previously traded as Spar and include two petrol station forecourts and four post offices.

All the stores will be redeveloped in line with the latest Costcutter store guidelines and offer customers across Jersey an extensive product range, including chilled and frozen products, Costcutter’s newIndependent own label, competitive prices and a three-weekly promotional programme allowing customers to buy all their daily needs from their local store.

Costcutter Supermarkets Group, based at Dunnington, York, is one of the UK’s biggest symbol groups supporting over 2,500 independent retailers to develop their businesses and meet the needs of their customers and communities.

This deal brings Costcutter stores to Jersey for the first time.

Nigel Robson, chief executive of J Mart Limited, said:

“We are now able to offer customers a wide range of fresh, chilled and frozen products, along with a quality own brand, right on their doorstep.”

He added:

“Refitting all our stores to Costcutter’s latest specification will deliver an excellent store environment to our customers, one that they will enjoy shopping in time and again.

“We will also be installing the latest till systems which will speed up customer transactions and simplify our ordering and stock management processes which will further benefit our customers.”
