A York steak and alehouse is celebrating its first year anniversary.
Since opening last April, The Whippet Inn, on North Street, has carved out a distinctive niche in York’s dining scene, quickly becoming one of the city’s favourite and most sought-after eateries.
In the 12 months the restored Victorian pub has served more than 35,000 diners, with both York’s locals and visitors enjoying the taste of some of Yorkshire’s finest reared meat and an unparalleled range of the region’s top ales and lagers, with 12,000 pints pulled in the pub’s first year alone.
Martin Bridge, co-owner of The Whippet Inn, said:
“It has been an absolutely incredible first year, each week we see new diners come through the door and regulars coming back for their favourite dish.
“At the heart of The Whippet Inn is our commitment to supporting local businesses and bringing together the best produce from across the region.”
The pub prides itself on its beef selection, all of which is sourced from within Yorkshire.
In the past year alone, 6,000 meat-lovers have enjoyed the taste of a 28 or 40-day aged steak, acting as a true testament to the quality of the locally sourced produce.
The Whippet Inn has seen huge success since the very beginning, only a month after the opening it was voted as Yorkshire’s most popular steakhouse and the second highest rated restaurant in York.
Its quirky décor blends with the restored Victorian interior to create a true home-from-home atmosphere that delivers honest Yorkshire hospitality, something that was key to Martin’s initial ambitions for The Whippet Inn, he explains:
“When we set about planning what we wanted The Whippet Inn to be recognised as, we knew we had to create a place where people could truly relax and really enjoy the best of British food.
“It is this that keeps our guests coming back for more and makes the bar and restaurant feel completely unique to the York dining scene.”
To celebrate its first year anniversary, all diners who are eating at the visit The Whippet Inn on Sunday 20 April will receive a complementary glass of fizz on arrival.
We are so proud of what we have accomplished in a year and it’s a great feeling to know that the people of York feel the same way.
“We are still committed to providing the best quality produce, amazing Yorkshire service and creating a truly memorable experience for all of our visitors.
“We only hope our success continues as we enter our second year.”
