Direct Golf produces perfect pitch for Yorkshire Cricket

Yorkshire County Cricket Club has teed up the perfect start to the new season by agreeing a sponsorship deal with award-winning Yorkshire-based golf retailer Direct Golf.

Always proud of its white-rose county roots, Direct Golf has consistently supported the club’s golf day with prizes and sponsorship.

This year, the Huddersfield-based company has taken its sponsorship a stage further and will be offering Yorkshire CCC members and supporters exclusive deals on the popular, ground-breaking Progen range of golf equipment, and increasing its branding presence in and around Headingley, the cricket club’s home for almost 125 years.

In turn, Direct Golf customers will benefit from special, exclusive discounts on match tickets and Yorkshire CCC merchandise.

It was a partnership made in heaven, well Yorkshire, anyway, as Direct Golf’s group marketing manager, Simon Corp – himself a proud Yorkshireman – explained.

He said:

“There is, and always has been, a big element of support for Yorkshire CCC within the staff and directors at Direct Golf, from company founder John Andrew – who was born in Howden – to the guys and girls on the shop floor,” he said.

“We’ve always been proud to support the county’s annual golf day but the relationship has developed to the point where we wanted Direct Golf to be a major sponsor and help push the club to further success.

“We attended the recent media day at the club and were able to get to know the players and club officials better.

“And they were all happy to be photographed to help announce our new relationship. Company founder John Andrew, and the directors and staff at Direct Golf and Progen would all like to thank the players who helped on the day and, as very proud supporters, wish Yorkshire County Cricket Club the very best of luck for the 2014 season.”

The cricket club’s commercial director, Andy Dawson, said:

“The partnership with Direct Golf is a perfect fit for us.

“Through our membership and the analysis work we have done, there is a large proportion of our support base who have an interest in golf.

“By working with Direct Golf – the country’s leading golf retailer – we can offer some great discounts and incentives to our members.

“Furthermore, the majority of our players enjoy a round of golf in their spare time and are looking forward to endorsing the Progen range.

“We look forward to a fruitful partnership with Direct Golf over the years ahead.”

Award-winning Direct Golf has 20 branches nationwide and was named ‘best mail order company’ for eight successive years in the Today’s Golfer reader awards.

The company, founded by John Andrew, a Class AA, PGA professional, in 1991, has enjoyed massive growth in 23 successful years of trading.

It started with one small shop in Huddersfield, but its philosophy of cutting manufacturers’ recommended retail prices proved to be very popular with the golfing public and it quickly gained the reputation for the best prices in the UK.

Backed up with fast delivery and world-class customer service, Direct Golf UK grew quickly into one of the largest specialist golf retailers in the UK and Europe.

And, earlier this month, it launched ‘golf’s #1 loyalty card’, which awards points for purchases made with 100s of major brands during everyday shopping – points which can now be redeemed in any Direct Golf store.

It was another move in keeping with the company’s ‘making golf more affordable’ ethos.

Yorkshire County Cricket Club was formed more than 150 years ago and has won 32 county championship titles outright. No other county in the history of the game has won more trophies nor produced more players for England.
