Six Sheffield gyms run by city operator SIV have made the finals of a national awards event after being voted for by the people who use them.
Members of Fitness Unlimited, a local health and fitness scheme operated by SIV on behalf of the charity Sheffield City Trust (SCT), have nominated the gyms at Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, the English Institute of Sport Sheffield and Concord Sports Centre for the UK-wide Member’s Choice Health Club Awards 2014.
SIV’s Fitness Unlimited gyms at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre and Springs Leisure Centre have also been shortlisted for the finals of the prestigious annual awards.
The SIV sites have been shortlisted alongside a number of other large national organisations.
SIV and SCT exist to improve the health and well-being of Sheffield people.
They reinvest all revenue generated back into programmes and facilities in the city
It comes after SIV was shortlisted for the coveted Leisure Centre Operator of the Year at the Flame Awards 2014.
The Member’s Choice Health Club Awards highlight the best clubs and leisure centres in the UK based on comments and feedback from the members of the venues who complete an anonymous online survey, voting on the quality of facilities, customer service and value for money.
Steve Brailey, chief executive of SCT and SIV, which operates 17 sports and leisure venues, said:
“Everything we do is geared around continually improving and investing in facilities and programmes for the benefit of Sheffield people.
“We’re absolutely delighted this has been recognised by the people who use our gyms through the Member’s Choice Health Club Awards.
“As one of the only city operators to make the national finals alongside large companies with hundreds of UK-wide gyms, it’s a clear endorsement from the people who matter that we are delivering on the quality of facilities, customer service and value for money with a gym membership scheme that offers something for everyone.
“It shows we’re delivering national standards locally for the people of Sheffield.”
Fitness Unlimited is SIV’s health and fitness scheme. It offers access to six gyms, eight swimming pools, a 200m running track at EIS Sheffield, more than 250 fitness classes each week and sauna, steam rooms and Jacuzzi.
In the last 12 months, SIV has opened a new £1m gym at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EIS Sheffield) and a new Fitness Unlimited gym at Heeley Swimming Pool.
Work has also recently started on a major refurbishment to expand and improve Concord Sports Centre’s Fitness Unlimited gym
The Member’s Choice Health Club Awards winners will be revealed at an awards dinner on 30 September 2014 at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
