Staff from a York city centre hotel are saddling up for a 166 mile cycle challenge this Friday with guests and colleagues looking on.

Led by general manager Graham Usher, a total of five members of the Best Western Monkbar Hotel team will pedal the distance between them on a fitness bike set up in the venue’s reception!

The team, which is raising money in aid of this year’s Children in Need appeal, is being supported in its task by staff from nearby Swift Fitness, which is offering health and nutritional advice in the run up the event.

In addition, they have secured the loan of a static bike from Yorkshire Fitness Hire for the duration of the challenge.

Mr Usher said: “We decided on 166 miles because last year Children in Need provided financial support to 166 different charities across Yorkshire, three of which are based in York.

“We are starting the challenge at 9am and, with a fair wind behind us, we hope to have completed it by 9pm.

“For a bit of added pressure we are staging the challenge in the middle of our reception, which no doubt will turn a few heads!

“It is going to be tough going, but Children in Need is a great charity and deserves as much support as possible

“I’m also very grateful to Swift Fitness and Yorkshire Fitness Hire for their help in our Children in Need challenge.”

For those wishing to donate, the hotel has set up a Just Giving page found at www.justgiving.com/bwmonkbaryork
