A Leeds ex-military fitness professional is on a mission to revolutionize the health and fitness industry with the launch of a new independent gym that will offer its members a completely new, results-driven approach to keeping fit.

Set to open at Leeds Dock on Monday December 15th, Primal Gym will be the first gym of its kind in the UK where the more its members exercise the less they pay.

The new gym’s results-based reward scheme gives members up to £10 off each month when they achieve their fitness targets via a clear goal-setting points system.

Over £500,000 has been invested in to the 10,500 square foot site creating 30 local jobs in the process.

Leeds Dock, formerly Clarence Dock is owned by Allied London – the firm behind Manchester’s successful Spinningfields development.

Headed by local fitness expert Philip Wright, who previously served seven years in the British Army as an Arabic interpreter serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, Primal has been founded on a belief that existing gyms currently on the market do not serve their customers, focussing too much on memberships rather than the actual members.

Primal Gym will aim to deliver something better, providing a unique experience designed to ensure its members will see real, measurable results.

Challenging current industry norms, Primal Gym aims to take on rivals in Leeds with a space that is full of new and exciting ideas and equipment all designed to help members enjoy the gym and reach their goals.

With over 20 resident fitness experts, Primal will also aim to offer something different to other gyms with a ‘house team’ concept that will divide members in to colour-coded teams, encouraging new interactive types of training, creating and encourage community and fostering a competitive spirit.   Primal will also provide luxury changing rooms and half price parking at Leeds Dock for its members.

Fitness education provider and sister brand Primal Academy will also run training courses for professionals at the gym.

Philip Wright, managing director at Primal Gym said: “For too long, gyms have promised results and not delivered – our aim is to change this.

“We’re delighted to be the first gym in the UK to reward its members for doing more exercise and we’re looking forward to helping Leeds residents with our new revolutionary approach to health and fitness.

“We believe Leeds Dock is a fantastic location for a new gym and we’re excited to be part of the rejuvenation taken on by Allied London.”
