A York city centre hotel is raising its own glass to today’s International Gin Day by doubling its current range of the trendy tipple.
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel currently has 25 different varieties for customers to enjoy – a number made by Yorkshire distilleries – and is now increasing its offering to in excess of 50!
Prominent brands currently found gracing the shelves of its bar include locally produced Slingsby and Masons gins, Bulldog Gin and Monkey 47, each of which can be taken neat, accompanied by a tonic, or as the main ingredient for a host of cocktails.
Monkbar Hotel general manager Graham Usher said: “The popularity of gin is very much on the ascendance, and our decision to increase our range to 50 different bottles is very much customer led.
“Long gone are the days when all that was on offer was a bottle of Gordon’s accompanied by a Schweppes tonic. Customers demand choice, and our aim is to ensure we have plenty for them to choose from.”
Mr Usher added: “Last year we completed a £3m upgrade, and part of this saw us totally revamping our food and beverage provision, including the conversion of our restaurant into the Yorkshire bar and grill.
“The main focus of the bar will be our gin display and, as we are determined to source our products as close to home as possible, and I’m delighted to say we will be stocking plenty of Yorkshire distilled gins.”
