Three corporate partners in the Leeds office of national law firm Bond Dickinson have each led a team of lawyers in completing a trio of significant transactions in the space of a week, advising respectively on a merger, a management buyout and an acquisition with a total deal value in excess of £130m.
Nigel Williams led a team which advised the owners of Scientific Laboratory Supplies Ltd, the leading independent distributors of laboratory products in the UK, on its merger with French-based Dominique Dutscher, to create the largest independent European distributor of laboratory supplies with circa €180m of combined revenue.
A team led by Alistair Scott-Somers advised on the management buyout of Exemplar Healthcare, a leading UK provider of residential nursing care for adults with acute physical, mental disabilities and learning disabilities which generated revenues of £55m to March 2016. The buyout was backed by Agilitas, a pan-European mid-market equity firm.
In the third deal, Simon Pilling and his team advised private equity firm Cairngorm Capital on its significant majority investment in the Polyframe Group in support of a management buyout by its executive team. Polyframe is the UK’s largest independent manufacturer and distributor of trade windows and doors and will generate revenues in excess of £50m in 2016.
Simon Pilling, corporate partner at Bond Dickinson said: “Since the country voted to leave the EU, there has been a lot of uncertainty about the likely impact on our economy. It is really important to make sure we’re staying ahead of changes and are making sure that our clients are still able to operate successfully. The three deals we have completed in the last week represent a tangible vote of confidence in some high performing businesses and we look forward to continuing to work with each of these great businesses.”
Andrew Steel, managing partner at Cairngorm Capital said: “The team at Bond Dickinson demonstrated remarkable professionalism, creativity, energy and good humour in helping Cairngorm Capital to complete a complex transaction in the midst of the Brexit vote economic uncertainty.”
Euan Craig, CEO of Exemplar said: “Bond Dickinson’s proactive approach, pragmatism and ‘can do’ attitude has driven the transaction to a perfect conclusion.”
Bond Dickinson’s Leeds office has gone from strength to strength since opening in 2012 and these deals underline the significant impact that the firm is making in the Yorkshire legal market since opening here three years ago. In the last year the office has made two lateral hires, Corporate Partner Simon Pilling and Real Estate Partner Julia Field.
The office has also just been shortlisted by the Yorkshire Legal Awards for the Law Firm Award.
Previously the office has also won Property Law Firm of the Year at the Insider Property Industry Awards, the regional Legal 500 Finance Firm of the Year Award and the Private Client Award at the Yorkshire Legal Awards. These awards recognise the quality of the reputation which the firm has established in the Yorkshire region.
