Professional services and engineering consultancy, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has added four new staff to its specialist environment arm in Leeds, as part of an ongoing recruitment drive by the multi-disciplined business which employs more than 260 staff at its White Rose Business Park office.
Charley Wainwright, a contaminated land specialist, and Michael Armstrong, an expert in asbestos management, join the now 23 strong environment team as senior consultants, having moved from Ramboll Environ and Redhill Analysts respectively.
As part of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s ongoing graduate recruitment drive, Gillian Birtles joins as graduate ecologist, with a remit to carry out habitat surveys and ecology assessments. Gill has in-depth knowledge of great crested newts; a protected species which is prolific in Yorkshire and has a reputation among developers for causing project delays and spatial constraints to development.
Thomas Gold joins the business as graduate environmental consultant and will work on a number of environmental projects whilst completing his Masters in Environmental Impact Assessment and Management at the University of Manchester.
The environment team offers a full range of services including acoustics, ecology, air quality, environmental impact assessments and ground contamination. The team is currently working on a number of high profile environment projects in the region including an environment appraisal for stage one of the Department for Transport and Highways England’s Northern Trans-Pennines Routes Strategic Study to dual the remaining sections of the A66 and A69.
Comments Kevin Stubbs, technical director in the Leeds environment business, said: “We will continue to expand our environment team to harness the growing number of contracts in the region as more brownfield land is made available for development, and transport infrastructure investment across the North continues to rise up the Northern Powerhouse agenda.
“With the full breadth of environmental services that we offer we are able to provide bespoke solutions for projects of every size and scale. The environment team also supports other specialist services the business, from infrastructure to building services and transport, and we will recruit as the business expands across all sectors.”
