Membership of a Yorkshire-based construction organisation has been the saviour of a Mirfield building firm.
D Croft & Son Ltd, which has been trading in the Yorkshire region for the past 35 years, joined Construction & Housing Yorkshire as a “last shake of the dice”.
Construction & Housing Yorkshire engages with developers, contractors and sub-contractors on major construction developments – ensuring they make a real difference to the residents and businesses that surround them – by addressing employment issues, training needs and business development.
Since becoming a member of the organisation – an arm of regeneration charity re’new – Company director John Croft has been introduced to key players in the regional construction and housing sectors, plus given invaluable help filling out tenders and pre-qualification documents.
Things weren’t going well, and in 2010 I was introduced to Construction & Housing Yorkshire. “It was a last shake of the dice and, it’s fair to say it has proved to be a very wise move.
Thanks to Construction & Housing Yorkshire, we have been introduced to key people in the sector, in addition to receiving help and advice filling in tender documents.
Membership has also led to us winning a regional award – 2012 Best Practice SME of the Year – which we are very proud of.
The last three years we have seen significant signs of business growth. We are now working with a number of housing associations and local authorities, undertaking a variety of different jobs. We are busy, which still in the current climate, is encouraging.
I would certainly recommend others to join Construction & Housing Yorkshire, particularly SME’s like ourselves. It has proved to be a real life line for us and has helped open a number of doors.”
Rob Wolfe, Construction & Housing Yorkshire Director said:
We couldn’t have asked for a better testimonial from a very proactive member. John joined us because his business needed a helping hand, and that’s exactly what we have been able to offer him.
We are very proud of our relationship with not just John, but with scores of other businesses involved with the construction and housing sector across the region.
Our members include micro and small enterprises and some of the country’s biggest names. Part of our role is to help businesses of all sizes work together to benefit themselves, their workforce and the region’s economy.
We also organise various events, seminars and workshops, where people like John get to hear from experts in the industry, tackle relevant issues and meet potential clients with a similar view.
