Pub foodie fest showcases East Yorkshire producers

A food-loving pub landlord is hosting a Foodie Fest to highlight the best of Yorkshire’s artisan food producers this weekend.

The “day of fabulous food, drink and live music” takes place at the Ship Inn, Sewerby from 11am on Sunday (May 26) and will feature 20 stalls including Gourmet Burgers and Yorkshire Beef Biltong from Manor Farm Beef at Thornholme, Smoked Salmon and Duck from Staal Smokehouse at Long Riston, Yorkshire Wolds Sausages and Ginger Kitten cupcakes, to name but a few.

Landlord Charlie Kilburn said:

“The Bank Holiday falls at the end of ‘Love Your Local Market Fortnight’, so we thought that we could celebrate it with a free food and real ale festival and throw in some live music for good measure! We’re so lucky to have so many great, artisan producers on our doorstep and it will be great to showcase them to our visitors from all over the country.

“We are also delighted that celebrated chef Stephanie Moon will be demonstrating recipes using the stallholders’ ingredients.”

Charlotte Shipley from Manor Farm Beef said:

“It’s good to have such an event on our doorstep – in terms of food miles, you can’t get much fresher! The event also coincides with the start of BBQ Week and we’ll be launching a new range of gourmet burgers. We did a Biltong and Beer evening at Ship Inn back in March and it was a great event, so I have high hopes for the Foodie Fest.”

Manor Farm Beef rears pedigree Belted Galloway, British Blue and Limousin cattle that are specially bred and fed to produce the best possible taste and texture. The are all born at Manor Farm and spend all of their lives grazing lush pastures before going for slaughter at 30 months (as opposed to the industry standard of 16 months). The beef is then sold through selected restaurants, Manor Farm Yorkshire Beef Boxes and at Driffield and Hovingham farmers’ markets.
