A York hotel is helping to fight cancer – one cup at a time!
To mark the launch of its new afternoon tea menu, the BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel is taking the opportunity to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The hotel, which is well-known for its support of local and national charities, is donating 25p from every afternoon tea sold to the cancer charity’s “Blooming Great Tea Party”.
The charity, which is the biggest provider of hospice beds outside of the NHS, will use the money raised to provide funding for its hospices and professional nursing for cancer patients.
Graham Usher, General Manager of The Monkbar Hotel, said:
“We are in the process of updating all our food and beverage provisions, which includes menus, with the focus being on great food and great service.
“Our new afternoon tea menu is one of the first areas we have looked at, and to celebrate its launch we thought we would tie it in with Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Tea Party.
“We hope our support of Marie Curie will appeal to many people who are looking to enjoy a nice cup of tea with all the trimmings in a friendly and welcoming environment.”
Mr Usher added the award-winning hotel, which recently came runner up in the Considerate Hotelier Awards green team category, had a long history of supporting good causes.
Over the last five years it has raised well over £30,000 for Martin House children’s hospice.
In April, the hotel helped Rebecca Boldry, of Stockton on the Forest, host a fundraising “Beef and Beer” night which £1,300 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which provided support when her partner died of cancer.
Mr Usher said:
“Charity is at the heart of our business, and we are very proud of our support for helping individuals and organisations to raise money whenever we can.”
Afternoon tea is served in The BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel from noon-5pm daily. The cost is £9.95 per person and includes a selection of sandwiches, freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, miniature handmade cakes & a pot of tea.
