Scunthorpe-based insurance broker Johnstone Insurance Brokers is set for growth, including the creation of two new roles, after receiving a £500,000 funding package from Santander Corporate & Commercial, backed by the Government’s Enterprise Finance Guarantee.
Launched in 1983 by Roger Johnstone, the business has a large and loyal customer base of predominantly commercial clients though the firm also caters for private, high-net-worth clients as well.
Now run by three, highly regarded brokers with 95 years of combined experience, Johnstone is to expand further with the creation of two new roles – a new business account executive role and a new trainee through the firm’s apprenticeship scheme.
Also the leading UK broker in the jet ski insurance market, Johnstone currently employs 10 members of staff and has nearly 1,000 commercial clients. The business handles all types of general insurance products across all sectors including motor insurance for commercial fleets, public liability, business insurance and business interruption.
“We’re delighted with this funding which will enable us to take on new staff and leave us in an excellent position to win new business and continue to improve the service we already offer our clients.
We’re committed to the highest possible levels of service, but also passionate about helping our local economy and, at a time when young people are finding it especially difficult to find work, we’re thrilled to be able to offer our new apprenticeship scheme.
“The funding from Santander will help significantly with running costs and we are excited about the new relationship going forward.”
Steve Brown, relationship director for Santander Corporate & Commercial, said:
“Johnstone is a fantastic example of a well-run, successful local business – and one we’re thrilled to be supporting. Johnstone is now the only locally owned independent insurance broker in the Scunthorpe area and is keen to help the local business community to thrive and to create jobs for it’s current and upcoming talent. We’re confident that this next stage of the development will be a huge success.”
