Airport announces new winter service

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has announced a new service to its winter schedule.

Ryanair, the low fare airline has added Tenerife to its offering from South Yorkshire for Winter 2013/14, with a weekly service commencing in October to the Island’s Tenerife South airport.

The winter route has been reintroduced at the airport following a successful summer service and both Ryanair and Doncaster Sheffield Airport are continuing to work together to look at potential new routes.

Steve Gill, Managing Director at the airport said:

“We are delighted that Ryanair are continuing   the Tenerife South route for the winter season. It will be fantastic for passengers who are looking for a winter sun break as they will benefit from low cost flights to Tenerife amongst our other fantastic destinations.

“The convenience of leaving from South Yorkshire combined with great value and low-cost fares is another worthwhile reason to fly local.”

In addition to the route announcement, official figures show that the airport has recorded month on month growth in business of 4.6 per cent in May 2013, with further growth anticipated throughout the summer season.

Chris Harcombe, Head of Aviation Development, said:

“It is fantastic news that we have had such a busy month in May. There are a number of factors for this growth including a very strong month for Wizz Air and positive start to the summer season for Thomson. In addition, Thomas Cook have doubled their capacity for Summer 2013.

“To be achieving growth is great news achievement and a testament to the team we have at the airport.  We have flights and holidays to over 30 destinations available for this summer and are working hard to build on our recent success.”

Alongside Tenerife, the airport will be offering other winter destinations for 2013 operated by Thomson / First Choice, Wizz Air, Ryanair and Transun taking holiday makers to a selection of resorts including Sharm El Sheikh, Lanzarote, Alicante and Gran Canaria.
