Nick appointed to spearhead international trade growth

Nick Patrick has joined South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC) to spearhead export growth from the region.

Nick, 54, becomes international trade manager at SYITC after spending the last 15 years running his own business in the international chemical sector.

With a wide-knowledge of world markets, Nick has spent the majority of his career working abroad, as well as providing management consultancy on international trade.

Nick’s international career started with Yorkshire Chemicals and he was responsible for global business development and the European subsidiaries.

Originally from Northampton, Nick has lived in Chesterfield for more than 20 years. He has regularly worked with agents and distributors in multiple countries, advising partners of budgets, objectives and procedures.

He said:

“There are many small and medium sized enterprises which need to understand the vast benefits exporting can bring to their business. Showing them the ropes is all I know.

“This is an exciting opportunity. I’m looking forward to speaking with a range of companies about exports and knocking on doors to boost trade abroad.

“A company’s market share can increase significantly through international trade. We are here to advise businesses on where they can take their products.

“We work closely with International Chambers of Commerce and British Embassies across the world to identify potential customers for companies in the Sheffield city region.

“The most effective way to get UK PLC on a sound economic footing, specifically the Sheffield City Region, is to generate a sustainable exporting profile.

“SYITC will be the centre of this drive and will work closely with UKTI, South Yorkshire International Trade Forum, Creative Sheffield and others to maintain and increase the drive to finding new international customers.”

The South Yorkshire International Trade Centre, which operates under the umbrella of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, can advise on any aspect of market development overseas and process the often complicated but essential export documentation requirements.

Nick added:

“We run a wide range of training courses specifically focused on exporting which includes all the international legal aspects and international freight forwarding through our sponsors, Hill Dickinson and 512 respectively.

“Finding customers in specific sectors in any market around the world is a real positive for the local economy. I therefore, urge businesses to come and talk to us and put us to the challenge!”

SYITC offers broad support for local businesses to grow their global market, including assisting exporters throughout the process of completing the documentation; from choosing the correct documents to ensuring that they are completed correctly.
