Supporters of an inspirational charity fundraiser will be able to follow every minute of his epic 2,342 mile UK charity challenge, thanks to a Yorkshire-based GPS tracking provider.
In addition to providing the system for Craig Walter, RAM Tracking will also be making a donation for every new client confirmed during the 29-year-old’s epic journey.
Craig is journeying around the UK from between July 4 and 16 with his two carers, Jody Gabriel and Debs Robinson, to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Martin House Children’s Hospice, two causes which are very close to his heart.
Taking in a number of UK landmarks, including a trip to 10 Downing Street, Craig’s Charity Drive will be tracked with one of RAM’s GPS devices and his progress broadcast live via an online interactive map for supporters to follow.
Through RAM’s associations, leading fuel card reseller, The Fuelcard Company, has also pledged its support to Craig through provision of fuel for his Challenge. Craig will be presented with a Diesel Advance pre-pay fuel card which he will be able to use along his route.
Diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a condition that causes muscles to waste and weaken at just four years old, Craig has always been a fearless campaigner and as part of his journey will be meeting others with neuromuscular conditions to highlight the inconsistent care provision in different localities across the country.
Craig will undertake the bulk of the mileage in a specially-adapted van but also plans to complete a half-marathon distance in his wheelchair as part of the journey.
Craig’s challenge is the first fundraising drive to benefit from the newly launched RAM Foundation, a charitable giving initiative from RAM Tracking, set up to provide GPS tracking for a variety of charity challenges and trips.
Chris McClellan, CEO and Co-Founder of RAM Tracking, said:
“At RAM we have a strong commitment to supporting charitable causes, whether it’s providing tracking for challenges and journeys or encouraging our staff to take part in fundraising events, so we decided to bring this all under one banner with the launch of the ‘RAM Foundation’.
“In the past, other charity challenges we’ve supported have seen an increase in donations when supporters are able to follow progress via the interactive maps and we certainly hope it will do the same for Craig.
“Craig is a true inspiration, refusing to let his condition stop him living his life to the full. It just goes to show that anything is possible with a lot of hard work, determination and true Yorkshire grit.
“I’d urge everyone to dig deep and help support Craig in reaching his fundraising target, we wish him the very best for his journey.”
The Fuelcard Company’s head of digital, Colin Peters, said:
“We became aware of Craig’s Challenge through our close association with RAM Tracking and instantly wanted to get involved. Craig is working tirelessly to promote a little known cause and we are honoured to be able to support him in his quest.”
“I love travelling, so organising a round-the-UK trip seemed like the perfect way to raise money for two causes very close to my heart.
“It gives me a fantastic opportunity to meet with other people with muscular dystrophy and highlight the need for consistency in levels of care which currently differ greatly from place to place.
“I’m so grateful to RAM Tracking for supporting my challenge with the GPS device and interactive map. I never imagined my friends and family would be able to watch my trip from the comfort of their homes and offices.
“It will definitely help my parents not to worry so much and gives an extra incentive for those donating money.
“Planning my challenge has taken a lot of time and effort so I’m really excited to finally get the wheels in motion.
“I hope it will help inspire others to not let anything get in the way of living life to the full – I always say: ‘I’ve got this illness but it hasn’t got me!’”
RAM is offering tracking devices to either main vehicles taking part and/or required support vehicles, plus online map tracking to boost fundraising and awareness.
