A central York hotel has been shortlisted in the North of England Wedding Awards.
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel, which in the last 12 months has seen a surge in the number of receptions and civil ceremonies it stages, has been nominated in the Best Wedding Venue in Yorkshire category.
Since last November – in addition to its annual wedding fairs – the venue has staged a series of special open evenings, where brides and grooms can get a look and feel of the venue.
Unlike the traditional fairs, where a host of experts showcase their services and talents, on these occasions it is just the hotel on show so couples can concentrate solely on the venue, and it is paying dividends.
The Best Western Monkbar Hotel’s General Manager, Graham Usher, said:
“It’s fantastic that we have been shortlisted in these awards which are entered by venues from across the North of England. The whole team here at the Monkbar is very proud.
“We have been actively reviewing and developing our wedding provisions with our events team, and nominations for awards like this show that our hard work is paying off.
“Additions like the open evenings have really helped us in this respect. Since launching them in November, we have seen a 25 per cent increase in wedding bookings, and we are attributing much of this success to these events.”
The awards ceremony is being held just a stone’s throw away from the hotel at the National Railway Museum, York, on Monday, September 9.
Mr Usher added:
“We look forward to spending the evening amongst the best in the Yorkshire wedding world, and wish all those nominated alongside us good luck.
“The next BEST WESTERN Monkbar Hotel wedding fair is being held on Sunday, September 22, and, if we’re lucky we might just have a sparkling new award to show off there.”
