NG Bailey wins Isle of Man data centre contract

NG Bailey’s Engineering division has been awarded a contract to convert an existing garage facility and office accommodation on the Isle of Man into a 100-rack Tier 3 data centre for leading communication solutions provider Manx Telecom.

The contract will see the Ilkley-based company act as principal contractor, providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing services to the new facility, primarily through the use of local sub-contractors.

The new data centre, in Douglas, presents a number of challenges.

The existing structure has to be maintained to reduce the need for major building modifications, meaning that the plant and services have to be adapted to fit the space available.

In order to accommodate this, and reduce installation time on site, the company will be utilising prefabricated solutions, which will be delivered to site and installed in a matter of days.

Once complete, the data centre will host applications and operation data to complement Manx Telecom’s existing data centre, which is PCI DSS and ISO 27001 compliant.

Managing director of NG Bailey’s Engineering division, Mike Darlington, said:

This is the first phase of a three-phase process for Manx Telecom, which plans to add two more data centres to the site in due course.
