John Lewis York seeks local retail talent

A drive to recruit 300 retail specialists to work at John Lewis York is now underway.

The retailer is on the hunt for new Partners (staff) to fill a variety of roles.

Currently there are 100 live vacancies for specialist roles, including visual merchandising, business protection, admin and maintenance.

The second phase of recruitment will open in November when 200 sales assistant roles will be open for applications.

Set to open in spring 2014, the 92,000 sq ft department store will be situated on the Monks Cross 2 development and the retailer is aiming to make it the most sustainable John Lewis shop yet.

It will offer customers an edited collection of products across fashion, home and electronics in an inspiring and contemporary setting.

Customers will also have access to computer terminals in the store to enable them to browse and purchase products from the wider range.

Rebekah Hawley, personnel growth manager at John Lewis who is coordinating the recruitment process, said:

“We are looking for hardworking people who can use their own initiative, are eager to work within a team and importantly, have a passion for retail. John Lewis is renowned for excellent customer service so finding a 300-strong team who are committed to ensuring every customer through the doors enjoys their experience is a key priority for us.

We are recruiting for a broad range of roles and offer both full and part-time contracts.”

Today’s announcement follows the appointment of Robert Garnish as branch manager at John Lewis York.

He said:

“To be at the helm of the new shop is a really exciting time for me and I’m confident that the recruitment team will select a strong group of individuals to bring the John Lewis offer to the residents of York and surrounding areas.

“The business gives all Partners fantastic opportunities to progress and move up the career ladder.

“In fact, I joined 13 years ago on the John Lewis graduate scheme and have been supported every step of the way to management level.”

Partners will become a part of John Lewis’s unique Partnership structure, meaning they are all co-owners of the business, as well as receive a host of benefits, including the annual bonus, access to holiday and leisure facilities, education and career development support.

The John Lewis York recruitment team is committed to training all new Partners to achieve the highest level of customer service and build upon John Lewis’s established reputation as one of Britain’s favourite retailers.

All applicants for roles at John Lewis York can log onto to apply for available positions.
