Fundraisers are in it for the long run to give Yorkshire carers a break

They may be footsore – but the efforts of businessmen and women from Harrogate and Skipton will pay for a much-needed break for the growing number of people in Yorkshire who look after a loved one.

A hotelier and two recruitment consultants were among a team of eight who put their best foot forward generated more than £6,300 for us by completing the inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon in aid of Harrogate and Ripon charity, the Carers’ Resource

The five runners from Harrogate were Fran Tagg, Simon Cotton, Stewart Owen, Mark Sanderson and Debs Lester.

The Skipton team featured brothers Chris and Steve Pugh, and Sam Boatwright.

Events and fundraising coordinator Anne Wells said:

“The money will be used to give both adults and young carers the chance to escape the day-to-day stress and pressures they face looking after a family member or friend.

“It will help fund everything from short breaks to pamper days – something which we know makes a huge and positive difference to their own health and well-being.”
