The national organisation, formed to promote the best pork products around the UK, invited butchers from all over the north-east region to exhibit at The Great Yorkshire Showground.
Commitments at the shop on Horsefair meant John Tipping from Greenwoods in Boroughbridge only entered at the last minute.
But he was thrilled to have so many of his handmade products make the top grade while five more were good enough for silver.
Gold awards went to two varieties of Greenwoods’ traditional pork pies, a pork and apple pie, a pork and black pudding pie, pork burgers, pork sausages and two ready meals – a chilli con carne and meatballs in a tomato sauce.
Silver awards were presented to John’s black pudding, dry cured and streaky bacon and to Greenwood’s Yorkshire farmhouse sausages.
“It was a long day as we had to start before dawn at the shop and then be across in Harrogate for the exhibition, with awards only announced after 7pm – but it was certainly worth it.
“Although we didn’t win overall, it was really satisfying to have the British Pig Executive confirm the quality of the produce we offer every day.
“We’re lucky to have a loyal customer base – some who travel a fair distance to buy our pies and meats – but although we’re proud of what we’ve achieved, there will be no resting on our laurels.
“We’re always looking for new ideas to match customers’ changing demands and the success with our ready meals has encouraged us to consider a few more recipes, which we’ll be adding to our range in the months to come.”
The recent awards add to an impressive list with Greenwoods having been racked up previous gold awards from the British Pig Executive for their sausages, dry cured bacon and ready meals.
