The Marks & Spencer store at Vangarde Shopping Park has become one of the biggest M&S stores in the region as it opened its doors to customers for the first time yesterday.
The brand new 100,000 sq ft store will offer customers in the area even more shopping options across fashion, beauty, food and homeware.
Along with the 18,000 sq ft womenswear section, M&S Vangarde Monks Cross also features a 1,500 sq ft Beauty Hall, a 14,700 sq ft Home department and a 170-seat M&S Café, offering panoramic views of York Minster.
Store manager Hilary Wilkinson said:
“It’s great to finally be able to welcome customers into the new store and show them what we have been working on.
“The new store will bring the best that M&S has to offer to shoppers in York.
“The feedback from our customers on all the new features has been very positive so far with the Beauty section and Autograph department, along with the striking green living walls, being key talking points.
“We look forward to welcoming customers into the store over the weeks and months to come.”
The new store has been environmentally built with no waste sent to landfill during construction.
Eco features include a 60,000 litre tank that recycles rainwater, reducing the store’s water use, and two green living walls, totalling over 1,800 sq ft, designed to attract wildlife and retain heat.
The store also features electric car charging points, refurbished trolleys and is part powered by 600 solar panels, which is a first for a new M&S store.
