A Harrogate-based home cinema and audio specialist is helping make like more bearable for young patients within a West Yorkshire hospital.
Audio Vogue has installed a fully-programmable media centre – including plasma TV and in-wall touch panel – in a new family facility within the Children’s Oncology department at Leeds General Hospital, which has been funded by the Candlelighters charity
Because the Audio Vogue team has worked with the charity in the past, it supplied the hi-tech equipment at cost price – and carried out the work free of charge – saving the Candlelighters more than £10,000.
The “pavilion”, which was opened last September and paid for by the Candlelighters charity, provides family time away from a clinical environment.
Audio Vogue director Peter Hudspeth said:
“We have supported Candlelighters in the past and they asked if we would be able to help them put some hi-tech touches to this project.
“The charity does a fantastic job in raising a significant amount of money, which helps buy equipment, improve facilities and fund staff working in the hospital’s children’s oncology unit.
“The system we have installed is fully-programmable, and, more to the point, is easy for both staff and patients to navigate their way around.
“We were delighted to have been able to save the charity a significant amount by undertaking our work for free and sourcing the equipment at cost price.
“Those using the facility, which also includes a kitchen and family dining area, will have the option to watch either Freeview channels or dvds and blu-ray films.”
Mr Hudspeth added he was now looking for help in filling the system with suitable films, which can then be added to the system’s media library.
“The server can store literally tens of thousands of films, which can then be shared across the ward. We are asking for unwanted dvd’s and blu-rays so the patients and families will have as wide a choice as possible for them to watch and enjoy.”
Any business or individual who can help donate a suitable dvd or blu-ray should contact the Audio Vogue team, on 01423 705851.
