New teaching graduates are being offered the possibility of immediate work by a specialist education recruitment agency.
Provide Education, which places hundreds of supply staff in schools every month, is inviting newly qualified teachers to register for job opportunities which could have them in paid employment within days.
The expanding agency is visiting universities and holding open days to sign up NQTs all this month (June).
Provide Education’s managing director Katie Jones said:
“We’d really like to meet newly qualified teachers interested in getting in to work as soon as possible.
“The summer term can be a very busy time for schools dealing with exams, so demand for supply teachers can be high.
“Where vacancies arise, schools often say they appreciate the enthusiasm and fresh ideas that newly qualified teachers bring to the job.
“And, we work fast at Provide Education, so can get NQTs registered, approved and into work within days of finishing their teaching practices if they want.”
Provide Education already works with over 2,200 teachers, teaching assistants and other support staff to fill vacancies in over 500 primary and secondary schools across Yorkshire and the East Midlands.
“NQTs are a vital part of our supply team and we look forward to recruiting and working with many more this summer.
“Supply teaching can help develop skills, boost confidence and provide a real insight into the kind of schools NQTs may want to work for long term. For many, it represents excellent experience before taking up a permanent post in September.
“For others, supply teaching can be a longer term career option.”
Claire Dodsworth, a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, joined Provide Education in June 2013.
She has worked as a supply teacher in a range of primary schools since then and is now employed in a long-term cover post, through which she is completing her professional induction.
“I would definitely recommend supply teaching. Since joining Provide Education, I have worked in a variety of primary schools and with all year groups.
“The experience has massively increased my confidence in the classroom.
“I’ve always been given excellent support too.
“The team at Provide give thorough briefings so that you always know what to expect before each assignment and frequently call afterwards to see how it went.
“They also put my CV forward to the school where I now work on a long-term cover basis with a year 5 class. It has been a great first year for my career.”
Provide’s records show that the vast majority of graduates who joined the company as active job candidates straight from university last summer have been in work – on various supply assignments – throughout the academic year.
Forty per cent have gone on to secure permanent jobs.
Many others, like Claire, continue with employment in supply and cover posts.
“We aim to provide an effective two-way service helping schools to fill positions quickly and safely and supporting teachers – at whatever stage in their career – to find jobs that suit them perfectly.”
Every new candidate joining Provide Education has a face-to-face interview with one of the company’s consultants to ensure all essential paperwork and vetting procedures are carried out.
The Provide team offer on-going support to the supply teachers on their books. Support is also offered with interviews and applications.
Supply work often enables NQTs to complete their inductions and access further training.
Provide Education is also now working with local authorities to offer additional NQT training and ensure continuing professional development in line with LEA and academy standards.
