A Yorkshire’s greyhound stadium is encouraging businesses across the region to “paws” for thought on Take Your Dog to Work Day 2014!
Sheffield’s Owlerton Greyhound Stadium is supporting the annual awareness day by calling on local companies to bring a canine companion to the office on Friday, 20 June.
Take Your Dog to Work Day was created in 1999 to celebrate the great companions that dogs make and encourage adoptions from local farms, shelters and rescue groups.
Celebrated on the Friday following Father’s Day, it encourages employers to experience the joy of pets in the workplace and support their local pet community.
Owlerton Greyhound Stadium works closely with the Sheffield branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT), based in Wortley, which has rehomed more than 1,750 greyhounds since its opening in 2006.
John Gilburn, chairman of the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust and managing director of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said:
“My dog, Lucy, a greyhound collie cross, spends a few days a week in our office and it has a really positive impact on the workplace and our employees.
“We’re encouraging as many businesses and organisations as possible to benefit from pet perks by opening up their workplaces to employees’ four-legged friends on this special day to celebrate the human-canine bond and also promote adoptions from the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust.”
