Construction is nearly complete on a brand new boutique hotel and restaurant in Richmond, North Yorkshire, with the new dining venue opening in Autumn 2014.
The Coach House at Middleton Lodge has been sensitively restored into a beautiful, contemporary and relaxed venue for locals and tourists to enjoy throughout the year. With an investment of £2million into the transformation of the new 2000 sq ft restaurant and nine-bedroom hotel, it looks set to become one of the most popular eateries in the region.
Situated in the stunning grounds of Middleton Lodge, The Coach House has been created from the estate’s old honey coloured, sand-stone Georgian stables, with nine individually designed en-suite bedrooms, overlooking the paddock and croquet pitch.
Visitors will have the chance to dine in the beautiful restaurant or have a choice of private dining rooms that will accommodate up to 80 covers in a relaxed atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a cocktail in the cosy-snug, well-stocked bar that is set to showcase a variety of cocktails with interesting ingredients and innovative bartending techniques from the highly skilled Mixologist team.

“Throughout the transformation process we wanted to make sure that the restaurant and hotel felt contemporary and relaxed, but that its traditional soul was still retained. It was vital to keep as many of the original features as possible, filling each room with quirky antiques and original pieces created by local craftsmen. Supporting local suppliers and artists from across the region in this way is something that truly sits at the heart of The Coach House.”
The Coach House at Middleton Lodge has also created a further 25 jobs for the local community, with many of the kitchen staff already hired, including new head chef Gareth Rayner, who will be joining the team in September. Local boy Gareth cut his teeth in a selection of top kitchens across the North East of England and he has previously led a kitchen team to receive three AA Rosettes and four AA Red Stars.
Gareth will be working closely with Middleton Lodge’s kitchen director, Caroline Whalley, to create the new mouth-watering menu, promising to indulge all of the diners’ palettes. Inspired by the land around him and the ever-changing seasons, the new menu at The Coach House will reflect Gareth’s passion for locally sourced ingredients from across the North Yorkshire countryside.
“I am committed to using only the best produce, chosen to complement the seasons and from the best local producers to ensure I give our diners the very best of flavours.
“I am so excited to get started, I have so many plans to make sure it’s the best I can create every day, which will entail redeveloping menus not just in my first few weeks, but on a daily basis. The seasonal menu will be ever changing, plus we’ll have a daily market menu showcasing a variety of strong rustic flavours, but with the finesse that diners enjoy today.”
After breaking ground in June 2013, construction is nearly complete with the finishing touches now being put into place. The boutique hotel and restaurant is on schedule to be ready for its Grand Opening on Friday 3rd October, with an evening menu prepared for its debut service.
