Cornerstones Education has been shortlisted for a business growth award after more than doubling the number of schools it works with in the last year.
Cornerstones Education supplies creative curriculum teaching and learning materials to primary schools across England and Wales.
The company has increased the number of schools it supplies from 500 schools to 1,100 within the last 12 months.
This growth has now led to the Barnsley-based company being shortlisted for the ‘Business Growth Award 2014’ by Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.
The nomination also recognises that Cornerstones has expanded its workforce and created jobs.
The company – founded by a team of just three former teachers in 2010 – has grown year-on-year and now employs 32 people including three apprentices. It has created 17 new jobs in the last year.
Cornerstones managing director Simon Hickton said: “It is an honour to be shortlisted for the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber Business Growth Award.
“When we set up Cornerstones, we set ourselves a clear mission to spread and support a creative learning philosophy in schools across England and Wales.
“We are thrilled to now be working with so many schools and to have strengthened our team in order to meet growing demand for our teaching and learning materials and services.
“Our company’s growth is all down to the hard work, commitment and vision of our fantastic workforce.”
Winners of the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on Friday.
Cornerstones Education, based in Goldthorpe, was established by a team of three directors each with 20 years’ experience in the teaching profession behind them – Simon, Melanie Moore and Graham Bell.
The creative curriculum specialists supply schools as far afield as Kent, Coventry and Cumbria. They secured over 80 per cent of Middlesbrough’s primary schools as customers, after presenting to the town’s teaching conference earlier this year.
Over 30 per cent of primary schools in Wales now use the Cornerstones curriculum. The company supplies 75 primary schools in South Yorkshire.
Cornerstones also secured its first international sale to a school in Cyprus this summer and other overseas enquires are coming in.
Cornerstones produces a creative curriculum package which provides comprehensive coverage of the National Curriculum, plus a growing range of additional teaching and learning resources that focus on reading and scientific investigation.
The company has also recently launched an innovative multi-media online hub to provide teachers with easily accessible and inspiring resources to accompany its curriculum projects.
