Battle lines drawn for major tattoo show in Harrogate

Body art fans are set to descend on Harrogate in their hundreds this weekend as one of the UK’s biggest public tattoo contests comes to town.

Tattoo Royal 2014 takes place at Harrogate International Centre (HIC Yorkshire) on Saturday and Sunday and will feature some of the most talented artists from around the country.

Show organiser, Amanda Kirkwood said: “Over 120 tattooists will be in attendance, etching their art on their human canvases.

“Visitors will be able to get tattooed, pierced, shop in the marketplace or take in live music, performances and sideshows whilst sampling the great food and drink on offer.

“The Bristol Tattoo Club will also be in attendance with their fascinating archive of tattoo history and memorabilia.

“We would like to cordially invite you to ‘Royale’ and sincerely hope you will join us for what promises to be a majestic event.”

One of those bravely going under the needle for her first ever tattoo will be mum-of-four and HIC sales team member, Rebecca Turnbull.

She said: “We’ve been really looking forward to this event because it’s a first for Harrogate and the International Centre.

“I’ve committed to getting my first tattoo and there’s no bottling out now.

“I haven’t quite decided on a design yet so I’m going to have a wander round on Saturday and get some inspiration from all the artists who’ll be there.

“It’s going to be a great weekend whether you’re after a tattoo or piercing yourself or whether you just want to go along and take in all the fantastic sights.”

Tattoo Royale is in its second year and comes to North Yorkshire after the inaugural event at Cheltenham Racecourse in 2013.

HIC director, Simon Kent said: “This is something really different for Harrogate and obviously we would love to welcome a show such as this back to HIC in 2015. It’s open to the public so please come along and enjoy it.”

Tattoo Royale opens at noon on Saturday, October 25 (advance ticket holders access available at 11am) and closes at 10pm. The show opens at 11.30am (11am for advance tickets) on Sunday and closes at 7pm.
