Travel operator Thomson has launched one of the country’s first holiday design stores in Meadowhall, Sheffield.
The new concept of store has been introduced to Meadowhall following its successful implementation in Thomson stores at Bluewater shopping centre, as well as Liverpool, Bristol and Glasgow city centres.
The new format boasts a number of new digital features including an interactive 84-inch touch screen map and high-definition screens which feature destination and hotel information, as well as reviews, weather information and lists of local sights.
Many of the destinations fly from the nearby Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, who were on hand to cut the ribbon at the 1,000ft store’s official opening.
Chris Harcombe, head of aviation development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “The new store is fantastic and we are delighted to officially open it.
“We’re proud of our partnership with Thomson, and together we can provide people with fantastic holiday destinations such as our new service to Zante and popular winter getaways such as Sharm El Sheikh, Cyprus and Tenerife.
“The holiday design stores really add to the customer experience of buying a holiday, and with Yorkshire now being home to a state-of-the-art Thomson store as well as a thriving Airport, travel continues to play a huge part in the local and regional economy.”
Jill Carter, head of sales at TUI UK & Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to open our Holiday Design Store in Meadowhall Shopping Centre. Our four holiday design Stores in Bluewater Shopping Centre, Liverpool, Bristol and Glasgow have proven to be a huge success and we’ve had excellent feedback from both customers and staff.
“It’s great to now be able to offer this unique service in Sheffield and help make booking customers’ holidays even more exciting.”
Thomson, which is part of TUI UK and Ireland, has 700 stores around the country and expects to roll out the design to 100 shops over the next two to three years.
