Top 50 law firm, Gateley, has welcomed associate, Joanne Sears, and solicitors, Becky Shepherd and Emma Taylor, to its Residential Development (RDU) team ahead of the office’s upcoming relocation.
The move sees Gateley sign a ten year lease at centrally located Minerva building, doubling its office size in Leeds.
The firm, which has 25 members of staff, is relocating from Toronto Square where it will sub-let its 3,880 sq ft office.
Joanne joins Gateley from Watson Burton where she acted for residential developers on site acquisitions throughout the north of England.
She is familiar with many aspects of land acquisitions for residential development.
Prior to Watson Burton, Joanne spent more than five years at DLA Piper where she acted for Government departments and major high street retailers on all aspects of landlord and tenant law.
Becky joins the firm from Addleshaw Goddard, where she worked for six years as a solicitor within the Real Estate team.
Her experience covers a broad range of commercial property areas, including disposals and acquisitions, landlord and tenant, corporate support and development work.
Gateley also welcomes newly qualified solicitor, Emma Taylor, to the team.
Having trained in the firm’s Birmingham office, completing seats in Residential Development, Banking and Finance, Corporate Insolvency Litigation and Employment, Emma will specialise in land acquisition and development on behalf of house builders.
William Ballmann, corporate recovery partner and head of the Leeds office, said: “We are delighted to have secured the lease at Minerva.
“Having entered the Yorkshire market in 2012, the Leeds office has become a genuine success story for the region.
“In less than three years the team has grown to four times its original size, providing expertise across Corporate Recovery, Corporate, Residential Development and Commercial Dispute Resolution.
“Having doubled in size within the last twelve months, the RDU team has played a key role in the office’s growth and I look forward to working alongside Joanne, Becky and Emma as we enter the next stage of our development.
“Already, we have added further weight to the office by appointing a Commercial Litigation partner who will join the team at the start of 2015.”
This news follows the announcement of positive 2013/14 financial figures which saw the firm increase its fee income by 7.5 per cent to £71 million. In addition, the Leeds office was “Highly Commended” at the 2014 Yorkshire Legal Awards.
