Yorkshire firms triumph in North of England Excellence Awards

Safe-Move, the Bradford business which provides property searches for conveyancing solicitors, was one of six Yorkshire winners at the 2014 North of England Excellence Awards last night.

The company, which is part of Yorkshire Water, won an Excellence Award at the ceremony at The Royal Armouries, Leeds.

Safe-Move started out providing water searches but now has expanded its service and acts as a one-stop shop for property searches. Over the past five years it has increased turnover from £2.6 to £4.3m.

Insurance broker Jelf Insurance Partnership which has offices in Leeds, York and Hull, won the Special Award for Customer Service, while Leeds law firm DWF LLP and rail operator First TransPennine Express both won a Special Award for Leadership.

GlaxoSmithKline’s studio at Barnard Castle, which provides artwork for GSK’s pharmaceutical businesses, won the Special Award for Lean while Leeds-based Northern Rail won the Special Award for Sustainability.

David Teale, managing director of awards organiser North of England Excellence, said: “The achievements of these Yorkshire businesses hold lessons for us all.

“We hope their success will inspire others to find ways to improve productivity and performance and continue to develop a culture of excellence in the North.”
