Santander Corporate & Commercial is strengthening its support for local businesses and extending its presence in South Yorkshire and the Humber with the opening of a new Corporate Business Centre in Barnsley.
The expansion into Barnsley is part of Santander’s strategic plan to grow its presence across the UK and demonstrates its commitment to the region’s businesses following steady growth to establish a local presence across South Yorkshire and the Humber.
To celebrate the opening of the new branch, a team of senior executives from Santander held a ‘coffee dash’ event ahead of the launch as a way for the bank’s regional staff to meet local businesses, discuss their needs and raise the profile of the centre with the community. The event saw Santander hire a coffee cart from local business Really Awesome Coffee, which was driven around by the owner Adrian Sharp and used to serve coffees to local business people.
Relationship bankers at the new Corporate Business Centre, which is located at 3 Queen Street, Barnsley, will provide a bespoke relationship banking service to corporate and commercial customers with a turnover above £250,000. Customers will be offered a full range of banking services, including asset finance, invoice finance, deposits, treasury, merchant recruitment, cash management and supplier payments.
The team for the new Barnsley branch will be led by Jonathan Thompson, Regional Director for South Yorkshire and the Humber, and includes Relationship Directors Jane Illingworth and Keith Smith.
Santander is focused on supporting businesses in Yorkshire and along with the new Barnsley office now has Corporate Business Centres in Sheffield, Hull, Chesterfield and Doncaster with 29 staff in total. Santander has increased lending to businesses across the UK by an average of 20% per year over the last four years: in Yorkshire, the bank has lent £223.5 million since 2012, of which £134.8 million has been in 2014.
Jonathan Thompson, regional dDirector for South Yorkshire and the Humber, Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide increased support to businesses in Yorkshire through our new Corporate Business Centre.
