Communications agency Acceleris has added to what is fast becoming one of the leading maritime communications divisions in the UK, having been appointed by Europêche – the Brussels-based pan-European fishing industry trade body which champions the interests of 45,000 vessels and 80,000 fishermen across the EU.
Europêche, officially the Association of National Organisations of Fishing Enterprises in the European Union, represents 16 fishing organisations from 10 European countries.
Its mission is to promote responsible and sustainable fishing practices whilst preserving the economic interests of the industry within the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament and on other major international stages.
Acceleris will develop a campaign to enhance the profile of the European fishing industry as an economically and socially sustainable sector that plays an increasingly vital role in the growing world demand for a healthy food.
The team will work to demonstrate the efforts of European fishermen to champion sustainable fishing and proactively comply with recommendations and advice to ensure fish stocks continue to return to sustainable levels.
Acceleris managing director Louise Vaughan, who heads up the agency’s Maritime Division, said: “This is not only a fantastic endorsement of the reputation and credibility we have quickly built up within the maritime sector over the past two years, but an important step in Acceleris’ future growth.
“Europêche operates in a challenging environment where public perception and reputation is crucial – and we’re confident we’ll be able to turn the tide in its favour.”
Europêche managing director Kathryn Stack said: “We have been really impressed with the work Acceleris has done, and continues to do, with the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations- one of our members.
“We work to unite the European fishing industry in a common cause and appointing an agency with Acceleris’ experience will be a major boost in promoting our work as a responsible and sustainable industry.”
Acceleris is a multi-award winning agency, based in Harrogate, and central London. Its 15 strong team works for clients in the public and private sectors around the country.
Europêche joins a number of other organisations in Acceleris’ maritime portfolio, which includes clients in both the catching sector and associated charities, and points to a growing expertise in the sector.
Its work within the fishing industry and maritime sector has received a number of national and international awards, including winning the Issues and Crisis Management category at the European Excellence Awards for 2013/14.
