Jewellery retailer Ogdens expands in York

Jewellery retailer Ogdens of Harrogate is opening its second store in York, following the success of The Little Diamond Shop launched in 2011.

The historic family-owned jeweller has signed a 10-year lease with Carter Jonas at 2 – 4 Minster Gates which will undergo a £200k refurbishment before opening in May 2015.

James Roberts Ogden opened Ogdens in 1893, which fast became one of the most renowned and prestigious jewellers in England. The company is now run by the fourth and fifth generations of the family: Glen Ogden FGA, who recently celebrated his 50th year in the business, and Ben Ogden FGA and Robert Ogden.

Ben Ogden said: “We are delighted to be opening another store in York following the success of The Little Diamond Shop. We always said we would expand if our presence in York was well received and the location is perfect for us.”

National property consultants Carter Jonas secured the Letting with senior surveyor Chris Hartnell overseeing the lease deal.

Chris Hartnell said: “Minster Gates is a prime spot for any retailer – it is right in the heart of York City Centre with York Minster and an array of other retailers close by.

“We are delighted to welcome Ogdens as the new occupiers and we hope the company continues its success in York.”
