A Barnsley IT company, with a strong foothold in the precision engineering sector, has doubled staff levels in the past 12 months.
Goldthorpe-based company IT Desk has increased staff to seven since last summer in order to meet demand. Turnover has also doubled.
The company, which was set up in 2006 and offers IT management and support to small and large businesses, has assistance from the business support programme Enterprising Barnsley, which is run by Barnsley Council .
Over half of its work is in the precision engineering sector, including contracts with Oracle Precision and Brinsworth Training, but it also has clients in healthcare, architecture and recruitment.
Managing director Chris Wright said: “We are based in an area which is rich in engineering and this has very much become our niche market. Our clients like the fact that we offer a bespoke service and take the time to understand their business and that we are always on hand to help out with their IT issues.
“A lot of our work has come through recommendation and we now have clients from as far south as Kent and as far north as Fife.”
The company offers a range of IT support packages to suit the needs of its customers. It specialises in proactive support including remote monitoring of systems 24 hours a day.
This allows IT Desk to respond to problems promptly and sort out any issues over the phone, via remote assistance or through on-site support.
In addition the company offers a unique overnight maintenance process which provides essential maintenance when the systems are not in use.
“We save our customers time and money by picking up on any problems during the night and providing more efficient and reliable machines for staff to use through the day,” said Chris.
Chris, who plans to move the company to larger premises in 2016, was delighted with the marketing and business development support he received from Enterprising Barnsley:
“It’s been a really positive experience,” he said. “Their support has enabled us to strengthen our business and focus on reaching our goals for the future.”
Enterprising Barnsley, which offers a wide range of free business support to small and medium-sized business with growth potential, has provided free advice in marketing, business development and tendering.
Tracey Johnson, Enterprising Barnsley’s Creative and Digital Industries Sector Specialist, said: “We are pleased to hear that the company is planning to expand its business in Goldthorpe.
“IT Desk is a company which knows its customers and works hard to keep them happy. It has a high level of customer loyalty and a clear idea of how it wants to grow and develop in Barnsley.”
