South Yorkshire music experts to give talks at Music Business seminar

Two South Yorkshire music experts will give advice and guidance at the next Music Business Network seminar.

The seminar, which will take place on Wednesday 3rd June, will feature talks from Emma Holling of record label Pure Records and organiser at Underneath the Stars Festival, Josh Ingamells of Big Sky Records and Frank Wilkes of Sheffield-based record label DMF Digital.

The free event will be held in the Digital Media Centre in Barnsley and will run from 5pm to 7.30pm.

The fourth event of its kind will look at how to run a successful music business, plan your own business model and establish a music network.

Guest speaker Emma Holling, of Pure Records handles the recording and merchandising of UK acoustic artists across the UK, including her sister Kate Rusby, Damian O’Kane and Willy Russell. Frank Wilkes, a music executive at DMF Digital, also worked as a band development coordinator at Higher Rhythm in Doncaster. Josh Ingamells and his brother Jake head up Big Sky Records and are members of the band Hitomi.

Barnsley music network host Damian Baetens, of national creative support organisation Transmit Start-Ups, said: “It’s great to have three local guest speakers from successful record labels that can pass on their pearls of wisdom to up and coming musicians.

The Barnsley Music Network was set up last year, and is funded through the Enterprising Barnsley business support programme, which is run by Barnsley Council.

Tracey Johnson, Enterprising Barnsley’s sector specialist for creative and digital industries, said: “These events have proven to be really popular, and we’ve had really positive feedback from them, so it’s great to have another one in the pipe-line and hope that these events continue to go from strength to strength.

“There’s some real musical and entrepreneurial talent in the borough and we’re keen to help develop and nurture that.”

The previous two events have covered how to market and promote music, how to make money from ‘sync’ and how to protect your intellectual property.
