The Marks & Spencer Company Archive is bringing some vintage seaside family fun to Leeds this weekend, with its special ‘Magic & Sand’ event on Saturday.
The event, which will be held at the M&S Company Archive between 11am and 3pm, will give visitors the chance to take part in some nostalgic nautical activities, including building sandcastles and hoopla. There will also be a magician on hand and a traditional Punch and Judy show, as well as talks from an M&S archivist about M&S at the seaside and guided tours of the archive.
Traditional swimwear will be on display in a new temporary exhibition, alongside the latest swimwear innovations from the current M&S collection. Visitors will be able to enjoy free refreshments and traditional seaside music. There’s also a chance to win an M&S hamper on the day in a prize draw.
Caroline Bunce, education and outreach officer at the M&S Company Archive, said: “We are really excited to bring a touch of the seaside to Leeds this weekend. The event really will take people back in time, from our collection of vintage swimwear to traditional beach entertainment such as games and puppet shows. We hope people are able to join us and enjoy some good old fashioned seaside fun.”
