M&S Great Yorkshire Show charity afternoon tea “a success”

Employees from Marks & Spencer in Harrogate invited visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show to join them for a very British afternoon tea, all in the name of charity.

On the last day, visitors to the M&S stand were in for a treat, as the Farmers’ Lounge was opened up to the public for a special afternoon tea.

Diners could enjoy the very best of M&S quality sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee, in exchange for a donation to Our Angels, a charity which supports families through the bereavement of a baby, working alongside Harrogate Hospital Maternity ward.

Andy Crum, M&S Harrogate Store Manager, said: “We were delighted to be a part of the Great Yorkshire Show this year, and proud to nominate the charity that will benefit from our afternoon tea.

“We chose to support Our Angels as it’s a cause that operates in the heart of Harrogate, supporting families in the community through a very tough time, so we felt they were an extremely worthy and deserving cause.

“It was fantastic to see so many people dropping into the Farmers’ Lounge for some very tasty M&S treats, and donating so generously in order to raise much needed funds for this charity.”

Visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show were also able to sample produce from Yorkshire and across the UK at the M&S stand.

The bright and airy stand focused on M&S’ commitment to sustainable farming and local produce, and also featured ‘Tastes of the British Isles’, the new summer food range that celebrates the best of traditional British dishes and ingredients, with a modern day twist.

The range was brought to life in the M&S demonstration kitchen, with chefs and regional suppliers showing how to create your own fantastic dishes using local produce.

If that wasn’t enough, there was plenty of hands-on activities and games for children that showcased M&S’ industry-leading milk standards, Lochmuir Salmon and exclusive varieties of super sweet strawberries.

Now in its eighth year, M&S’ Farming For The Future Awards took place at 2:30pm on 14 July, celebrating suppliers that are working towards important M&S Plan A commitments including becoming carbon neutral and sending no waste to landfill.
