Wombwell equestrian centre acquired by new owners

Aldham Mill Farm Equestrian Centre in Wombwell, Barnsley, has been acquired by new owners as a result of a six figure funding package with The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

Local couple, husband and wife Steve and Angela Hutchinson have acquired the 70 acre site and announced plans to significantly extend and improve the facilities available.

Until their takeover, the centre offered 11 stables for livery use.  The new owners have already developed nine new stables, tack rooms and individual paddocks – all of which have been let.  They have also installed new feeders and auto drinkers for the horses.

Plans to build another block of six stables are currently being undertaken and it is expected that these will be available from late August onwards.  In total, the new owners aim to offer livery for 30 horses by the end of their first year of trading with a longer term objective of creating facilities to house 35 in total.

In addition to the stabling facilities, the Hutchinson’s also plan to make improvements to two of the three arenas on site.  They plan this year to complete an extension to the indoor arena, increasing it by 10m in size so that it can be classed as a full size dressage arena.  Future plans also include installing floodlighting, stadium seating and a cross country course.

Floodlighting is also one of the improvements intended for the current outdoor jumping arena which will also see 14 to 15 permanent jumps installed.  These arenas are available for public rent as well as for those with horses in the livery.

Steve Hutchinson, owner of Aldham Mill Farm Equestrian Centre, said: “I am pleased that we have been successful in our acquisition of the equestrian centre.  We have a lot of plans to develop and extend the facility and have already started work on many of them in order to maximise its potential.

“The equestrian centre has a very good reputation in the area and some fantastic facilities which we intend to continue to improve and develop for the benefit of our customers.

“The support we have received from RBS throughout the acquisition process has been excellent and has allowed us to fulfil our ambitions of owning an equine facility.  I’d like to thank the team for working alongside us and making the whole process as straightforward as possible.”

Steve Ebsworth, relationship manager at RBS, said: “The plans that Steve and Angela have for the facility are impressive and we wish them all the best.  It’s great that we have been able to support the couple to achieve their business aspirations and look forward to seeing the improvements they intend to make when they are finished.”
