Simon Lindsay has joined Ferndale garden centre at Coal Aston as garden centre manager.
Previously, he had a 29-year career at B&Q then moved to Tesco to run their Petrol Express stores. Outside work, Simon has a huge variety of interests.
Living in Derby, he enjoys walking in the Peak District and wildlife photography, metal detecting and runs the Derby Artefact Recovery Club website. Simon has been married to Julie for 36 years and has two grown children and two grandchildren.
Ferndale director Neil Grant, who is also BBC Radio Sheffield’s gardening expert, said: “We are delighted Simon has joined us. As our team of directors has gone through the national Growth Accelerator programme and our retail director has recently completed the Santander Leadership Programme, we have seen great growth, including doubling our award winning coffee shop seating capacity to 200 covers and extending our retail offer.
“As a family-owned company, Simon’s impartiality and extensive retail background will free up the rest of the management team to specialise in developing new activities and initiatives for the ongoing success of the business. Already Simon’s appointment means some quality time off from our 24/7 business!”
Simon said: “I am very happy to be offered the chance to lead this great team. I understand where Ferndale are going and am bringing my experiences to add to what is already a great business. I’m really enjoying my move from the large corporate world into the independent sphere- I should have done it years ago.”
