Business booming at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre

Businesses based at Barnsley’s landmark creative and digital hub are celebrating phenomenal growth this month.

Egress, an international provider of email and file encryption services and software, has called the Digital Media Centre home since 2013 after expanding its London offices to Barnsley.

After achieving record breaking growth, Egress has outgrown its office twice in two years and now employs 34.

Egress achieved more than 100 per cent year-on-year growth in sales bookings, new customer acquisition, significant upselling to existing customers and a 100 per cent renewal rate of existing subscriptions.

John Goodyear, co-founder and chief technology officer, said: “We’ve had an extremely busy year seeing considerable business growth across the UK and North America.

“We needed a larger office to house our ever expanding team of developers, support and technical services engineers and knew straight away that we wanted to stay within the Digital Media Centre.

“The offices are of fantastic quality and the staff really go above and beyond to help you with whatever you need.”

Joining Egress in the celebration is video production company Visualised it, which moved into bigger office space this month after securing contracts for the television industry to film and edit broadcast content and TV adverts.

The Digital Media Centre has been headquarters to Visualised it since 2013 and has seen the business expand from a team of two to six this year.

“The Digital Media Centre has been a great place to base my business.” said Joada Allen-Booth, Head of Production at Visualised it.

“This month saw our second birthday and to mark the occasion we delivered personalised buns and cakes to the other businesses in the centre. Being so close to lots of other businesses is a real advantage for networking and developing new business.”

Tracey Johnson, project manager at the Digital Media Centre, added: “One of the best parts of my job is seeing businesses in our centre flourish.

“Our centre provides top quality facilities and business support so that all our companies have the right room to grow and develop.

“We are delighted that Egress, Visualised it and many other businesses in our centre are doing so well and look forward to watching them grow further.”

The Digital Media Centre will continue to support businesses to grow with the launch of yesterday’s Enterprise Nation Hub. This new co-working and event space will provide low cost access to workspace and support for small and micro businesses.
